What is a generic medication?

Generic medications are significantly discounted copies of brand name medication that have the same active ingredients, intended use, dosage, side effects, effects, and route of administration as the original brand name medication. In other words, generic medications have the same pharmacological effects as their brand-name counterparts. Over half of all prescribed medications are for generic medications.

Combivent Respimat Helps Treat the Following Conditions:

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease - COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an umbrella term used to describe inflammatory lung diseases.

The two most common kinds are chronic bronchitis (inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes) and emphysema (caused by damage to the air sacs of the lungs).

COPD is usually caused by the inhalation of pollutants like cigarette smoke, chemical gases and airborne particulate matter.

Combivent Respimat Active Ingredients

Combivent Respimat consists of two active ingredients: ipratropium and albuterol (also known as salbutamol). Both drugs, whether you have an ipratropium or albuterol nebulizer solution prescription, help to relax the muscles around the airways so that they may open up, allowing patients to breathe more easily.

General Drug Information

What is Combivent Respimat and What Is It Used For?

Combivent Respimat is prescribed to treat and manage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including bronchitis and emphysema. The medication helps to prevent symptoms like wheezing and shortness of breath. Controlling breathing problems can increase a patient’s quality of life and decrease time lost from work or school.

Usage and Application

Before sourcing Combivent Respimat online, please read the medication guide prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist. Make sure you know how to properly use this inhaler. Your treating physician can help with any additional questions.

Patients should follow the instructions for priming the inhaler when using it for the first time or if they have not used it for more than a few days. When priming the inhaler, spray away from your face to prevent medication from getting into your eyes.

Should any of the medication enter the eyes, it may cause eye pain, irritation, temporarily blurred vision, and other vision changes. To minimize this risk, put your lips tightly around the mouthpiece before each use.

The medication is inhaled orally, usually four times per day. Some patients may be directed to use Combivent Respimat as needed to manage wheezing and shortness of breath. Dosage is dependent on a patient’s medical condition and response to treatment. It is imperative that patients follow their doctor’s directions carefully.

Patients should not use more than six inhalations of this medication within a 24-hour period. Using Combivent Respimat more often may increase the risk of serious side effects.

It is important to rinse the mouth with water after each dosage to help prevent dry mouth and throat irritation.

Patients using other inhalers should wait at least one minute between each.

It is necessary to use Combivent Respimat regularly in order to experience its full benefit. It works best if used at evenly-spaced intervals. To reduce the risk of forgetting, patients are advised to take the medication at the same time each day and used exactly as prescribed.

Increasing the dose or using Combivent Respimat 20/100mcg more frequently is not advised, neither is stopping the drug without first consulting the treating physician.

Patients should clean the mouthpiece of the inhaler at least once a week.

Patients who use more than one inhaler should determine which is for daily use and which is only for quick relief of severe breathing problems. The treating physician can help to prepare a plan of action that addresses new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, increased sputum, and waking up at night with trouble breathing.

Patients should understand what to do if they begin using their quick-relief inhaler more often or if their quick-relief inhaler loses efficacy. Patients should also determine which breathing problems can be tended to at home with prescribed medications, and which issues require immediate medical assistance.

Contact your doctor in the event your condition does not improve or worsens.

Considerations Before Taking Combivent Respimat

If you shop for Combivent Respimat in Canada or online, please note that you may encounter the drug under its generic names, whether as an ipratropium bromide solution or an albuterol sulfate inhalation solution, also known as salbutamol.

Before starting treatment, patients need to discuss the possibility of allergic reactions to the two active ingredients of this medication. Patients should also mention any possible allergies to tiotropium, levalbuterol, atropine or other belladonna-type drugs. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

It is vital to discuss the patient’s medical history, especially relating to high blood pressure, seizures, hyperthyroidism and diabetes. Patients should report any difficulties urinating (e.g. enlarged prostate). The treating physician should be notified about any personal/family history of angle-closure type glaucoma or history of heart disease (e.g. irregular heartbeat, chest pain, or previous heart attacks).

Combivent Respimat may cause dizziness, blurred vision, or other vision changes. Alcohol or marijuana can cause more dizziness. Patients should not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness or clear vision until they can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor regarding marijuana use.

Patients preparing for surgery or certain dental procedures should inform their doctor or dentist about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products they are taking.

Older adults are likely to be more sensitive to the side effects of Combivent Respimat, especially constipation and problems urinating.

Women who are pregnant – or planning to become pregnant – should discuss the safe use of this medication with their doctors. Combivent Respimat should only be used when clearly needed during pregnancy.

It is not known whether the active ingredients of this drug pass into breast milk. Women should consult their doctor before breastfeeding.

Delayed and Omitted Doses

Patients who miss a dose should take it as soon as they remember. If this happens near the time for the next dose, patients should skip the missed dose and proceed as usual. Patients should not double up the dose in order to catch up.

Other Medications and Combivent Respimat

Drug interactions may change the way Combivent Respimat or its generic alternatives work, and can increase the risk of side effects. Before starting treatment, patients need to discuss the full list of medications and supplements they are taking with their doctor.

Patients should not change their dose or stop taking this medication unless their physician advises them to do so.

Albuterol is very similar to levalbuterol. Do not use medications containing levalbuterol (e.g. Xopenex) while using Combivent Respimat.

This document does not contain a full list of all possible interactions. Please consult your physician before you buy Combivent Respimat online or any of its generic alternatives.
